Carpet Installation - Intermediate
This course is designed to improve on already gained skills of a practicing carpet installer, including approaches to more complex installations and fitting techniques including L shaped areas, incorporated staircases, hand sewn bullnoses, stair runner templating and installation, joins in situ and power stretching. A ‘must do’ course for those wanting to add to their skills, revenue and range of work they can undertake.
Course content - What will you learn?
Knowledge
- A greater understanding of British Standards BS 5325 (Textile/Carpet)
- The subfloor types and how they affect installation (overview)
- Different subfloor moisture testing equipment (overview)
- Subfloor preparation options including fabricated underlays, DPM’s, primers and smoothing compounds (overview)
- Room shapes and their effect on the installation
- The tools, equipment and PPE required
- The importance of correct material selection including gripper, underlay, carpet (plain and patterned) and finishes
Skills
- Proper use of tools, equipment and PPE
- Accurate installation methods for interlays, underlays, gripper and finishes
- Correct planning and cutting of carpet to meet complex installation requirements
- Appropriate stretching and cutting in techniques for L-shape areas and staircases
- An introduction to power stretching equipment and techniques
- Precise joining and seaming processes including electronic Silvaseam type
- Correct preparation and installation of kite winders
- Correct preparation and installation of Hand sewn bullnose steps
- Correct templating and installation of stair runners

- The ability to reassure customers those techniques used ensure work is quality assured
