Course content - What will you learn?

Knowledge

•    An introduction to British Standards BS 8425 (Laminate and Floating Floors)
•    Recognition of subfloor types and how they affect installation
•    Basic subfloor moisture testing and equipment (overview)
•    Subfloor preparation options including fabricated underlays, DPM’s, primers, smoothing compounds and renovation systems
•    The tools, equipment and PPE required
•    Correct material selection including subfloor and finishing profiles
•    Laminate and wood floor products, how they behave and their limitations
•    Effects on the products based on its environment – Acclimatization
•    Room shapes and their effect on the installation

 

Skills
  • Proper use of tools, equipment and PPE
  • Accurate installation methods for subfloor and finishing profiles
  • An introduction to Setting out, hand/machine cutting, door frame and architrave preparation
  • Correct installation of Laminate and Floating wood floors including straight lay, offset, expansion gaps and perimeter finishing
